DENIA RFC 43 v JERSEY RFC 12
Denia started their season off on Saturday 17th September with a good performance and a win against Jersey RFC who play in the English National league. On a very hot Saturday afternoon both teams played some entertaining rugby with Denia’s tries coming from Milton (2) Xuan, Nestor, Nico, Ximo, Yovanni and David. Jersey had a big set of forwards and it was a good contest in the scrums but the Denia tactic was to get the ball wide and attack down the wing channel. This worked well with the Denia three quarters finding space to break the defence. The game was well contested and very entertaining which had the many spectators on their feet cheering both teams along. Great weekend with the Jersey lads they mixed in with the Denia lads well and everybody had a good time. Big thanks to Oasis Hotel who looked after the touring party so well they are already thinking of arranging a return fixture. Thanks to Colin Cook who arranged the tour as Jersey was his old club and he certainly linked with many old friends. Mention must be made to the Chiringuito Denia Club Nautica and MIlton and Lucas who cooked and served a massive BBQ for the tours Sunday lunch. All the Jersey lads said thank you to Denia Rugby Club for arranging such a wonderful weekend. Comments like this make it all worth while.
Fixtures
Fixtures have been announced this week, !5th September, for the Senior Team and can be found under "Teams and Fixtures"
Mad Rugby players and English Men and Women Out in the Midday Sun
Denia Rugby Club held their second 10k sponsored walk on Sunday September 11th to raise money for the players to help pay their subs to the Valenciana Rugby Federation. Each player in the region has to pay 150 euros to the Federation which gives them a license and insurance to play. Over and above this each club has to pay 1,700€ to register again to the Federation. So it is all go with players looking for sponsors. The sponsored walk attracted many players wives and girlfriends who walked from the Oasis Hotel, Denia to Las Rotas and back. All of the walkers suffered with the heat at midday but all finished the walk. In total we raised over 1000 euros for the club funds. Big thank you to all who walked, all very tired and left counting the blisters.
Denia RFC Celebrate

XIX Denia Beach Sevens
Denia held their XIX beach Sevens Tournament on Saturday August 20th on a very hot Albanaras Beach in Denia and produced a festival of rugby enjoyed by hundreds of spectators and rugby followers. On the day a few teams didn't turn up so the tournament continued with Akra Barbara (Alicante) and La Soria (North Western Spain), M.A.G.O.S. (Veterans) and Denia A and Denia Corsairs (Youth). First of all every team played each other and the top four played in the semi finals. At this stage MAGOS had one more game to win the wooden spoon trophy. Both semi finals produced some good open rugby, Akra Barbara never gave up against Denia A pushing them right up to the last minute when Denia broke through the tough defence to score and reach the final. La Soria played with spirit against a much faster Denia youth team, and even resorted to a seven man driving maul in an attempt to cross the Denia line. Before the final the large crowd was treated to games between Denia Feminina and all age groups from the Denia School of Rugby. The final between Denia seniors and youth showed how Denia has progressed over the last year. The pre match team talk was easy... play some good rugby and enjoy. This is what they did, but the youth were a lot quicker than the seniors and with both teams passing the ball around the crowd applauded the way the game was played. Denia Corsairs won many tries to one, but it was Denia who won on the day. Presentation of the trophies saw the youth receive the bigger winner’s trophy which they had great pleasure in reminding the seniors about their smaller trophy. The seniors had to accept defeat gracefully.
